Job Description Summary

The Sr. Specialist responsibilities include:

Consultations:

  • Serve as a strategic partner, promoting ethical and compliant behavior and team member advocacy while operating within Sunbelt Rentals’ established policies and procedures and recognizing its business goals.
  • Consult with HR Business Partners as needed to review the facts of a case, identify possible policy violations, and assess accountability.
  • Make recommendations for appropriate coaching, training or corrective actions based on policies, practices and precedents.
  • Build collaboration with HR teams and maintain regular communication to ensure that information about their respective matters is kept current and that their cases are closed in a timely manner.
  • Build collaboration with other Centers of Excellence to contribute to the HR Department’s role as a strategic partner to the business.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert in regard to Sunbelt Rentals’ Employee Information Handbook and other employment policies and local, state and federal employment law.
  • Influence stakeholders while respecting their authority to decide. Program Development, Reports & Data Analytics
  • Manage the Employee Relations (“ER”) case data within ServiceNow (“SNOW”) and a wide range of other sources to provide analytical and reporting solutions to the organization.
  • Develop tools and reporting systems for management of the employee relations program.
  • Maintain a current Matters List and leverage technology to support that function while also developing other similar reports that can be tailored for risk analysis, EPLI evaluation, board reporting, etc.
  • Manage the on-going development of ER SOP and processes.
  • Work with HRIS and Digital & Technology groups to continue to enhance SNOW’s ER services to meet the organization’s needs.
  • Develop a fair process and systematic methodology in conducting facts-based workplace investigations that can be scaled and implemented by the HR Business Partners.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources Directors and Employee Relations Director to identify coaching opportunities in evolving Employee Relations practices.
  • Contribute to the creation of applicable, standardized training solutions and communication materials for employees, supervisors, managers and HR Team members as appropriate and conduct training sessions as needed.
  • Create professional presentations and educational materials to fulfill a variety of goals.
  • Create a cadence of on-going training with HR Teams regarding ER SOP, ER SNOW functions and new developments/best practices.
  • Manage the EthicsPoint Compliance Hotline system and related reporting goals, including board reporting, etc.
  • Assists with preparation of plans, policies, documents, and reports including EEO-1, affirmative action plans, and employee handbooks.
  • Assists with recordkeeping related protected statuses and employment transactions particularly as related to Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), affirmative action, and diversity initiatives.
  • Prepare regular and ad-hoc reports on HR metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) for management and other stakeholders.
  • Collect and analyze HR data such as employee demographics, turnover rates, and performance metrics to identify trends, patterns, and areas for improvement.

Escalated Investigations

  • Conduct investigations that have been escalated by the HR Director in instances of impasse or implication.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel and relevant subject matter experts during the course of investigating high-level investigations.
  • Keep relevant parties informed of investigation developments and recommended action.
  • Act as witness when needed in meetings associated with Employee Relations issues and lead such meetings as needed when requested by HRD.
  • Prepare, track, develop and implement investigation plans that drive for timely, fair closure of open cases.
  • Manage employee data and statements in a highly confidential manner.
  • Provide support to counsel in gathering records, information and data required in responding to escalated complaints, Charges and court cases.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience plus 2-3 years of handling employment-related issues.
  • 2-3 years experience compiling and interpreting large volumes of data and translating information into useful insights.
  • Extensive knowledge of federal and state employment law.
  • Ability to understand Sunbelt Rentals’ culture and leverage that as a positive means of achieving objectives.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects at once without losing focus, while still being able to pivot and adjust to evolving business needs.
  • Deep sense of empathy while still maintaining the ability to remain unbiased.
  • Genuine desire to help people and willingness to stand up to others to do so.
  • Ability to prioritize and demonstrate high organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong follow-through skills and ability to resolve issues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide the highest level of service across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exercise discretion in dealing with highly confidential issues
  • Experience with Workday preferred
  • Experience with ServiceNow preferred
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • SHRM or PHR certification preferred

Physical Demands:

Must be able to bend, squat, crouch and/or reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more, as required by the job. Some Sunbelt jobs may require driving for long periods of time, loading and unloading heavy equipment, performing work in extreme weather conditions including rain, wind, or excessive temperatures and/or night and weekend work. Base Pay Range: $61,258.00 - 84,229.20
